Ever since I took possession of my girlfriend’s FLIP camera I have been on a filming spree. I know I have a story to tell with Million Monkey, but more important than that is the GREAT advice I can give to new brands. I wish I would have met people like Steven Cedre aka SoleJunkie, Ryan Johnson of Pur3ly Root3d Clothing, and Daniel James of QBS Graphics earlier! These guys all taught and shared knowledge with me, so I want to pass it on
We have had some very exciting things happening this month and one is the releasing of our cypher videos! I got the team together to record a rolling cypher that goes through the camp. The artist tag one another with the phrase “……you got the monkey on your back!” Here are the videos from week 1. I started the cypher off to be my usual goofy self and then put the monkey on Trizzol’s back, who murdered it!!!! Enjoy, I will post week 2 videos up after Friday (Hittaville and Ronnie Millionz)
Downsiid is one of Texas’ Hottest rock groups touring the nation, selling merchandise, and recording new songs. We proudly sponsor DJ Akira (the guy with the crazy mohawk) and have become good friends with the group from our hometown. Downsiid was formed in 2000 by drummer Rich ‘B.rich’ Burgos in Killeen,Texas. The band entered the Central Texas music scene as a 4 piece that was a lot harder sounding and rougher than the Downsiid fan’s know today. The band originally was made up mostly of U.S Army soldiers stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas. B.rich started looking to make some line-up changes. Singer Jason ‘String’ Atwood joined the band after a chance meeting with ‘B.rich’ at a local Tattoo Shop that String owned, and the voice of Downsiid was found. In 2003 DJ Akira MC joined the band bringing Hip-Hop, turntablism, samples and a hype man into the mix. Jeff ‘Spanish’ Scott, George Dell, and Joe Clinard complete the band on lead guitar, guitar/vocals and bass respectively. Downsiid has enjoyed independent success with their releases: ‘Karma: The Rebirth’ and ‘The Evolution of Ghetto Rock’. They have toured the country on self funded tours to include their annual indie fest ‘The Siid Show: Rock N Roll Circus‘, which is in it’s 5th year and now includes 8 Texas cities, “Girls, Grills and Guitars Tour” and “The Freedom Tour” which took them to
As all good stories start, I was at a friend’s house drinking around the table with good company. As we started to get a good buzz, one of the girls at the table kept talking about this person who kept making her mad at work. She worked for a watch company and a lot of her external contacts were from China. This guy, who I am assuming adopted an American first name, was Dicky Wang. As the night went on, she kept saying “Damn you Dicky Wang!!!!” It became the catch phrase of the evening and for some strange reason it stuck with me. I remember saying to my friends, “I am going to start a clothing line and I am going to be Dicky Wang!” Low and behold, here we are about 3 years later and I am still THAT guy!! It’s funny because a friend of a friend gave one of my “Ethnology” tees (first brand I started) to Wilmer Valderama when MTV’s Yo Mamma was popular, and he thought Dicky Wang was such a cool name to brand! (Just so you know Wilmer wore my shirt during a UFC event!!!) My personality is so wacky and fun, I thought the name fit me perfectly. I am half Thai and half caucasian, so the Dicky is for the good ‘ole boy in me and Wang for the Asian side.
